Prayer to live in God's Presence

God, my Father, You have promised to remain forever with those who do what is just and right. Help me to live in Your presence.
The loving plan of Your Wisdom was made known when Jesus, your Son, became man like us. I want to obey His commandment of love and bring Your peace and joy to others. Keep before me the wisdom and love You have made known in Your Son. Help me to be like Him in word and deed. Amen.

SPECIAL PRAYERS

Please pray for ALL in our Parish Family that are ill...

PRAYER: Dear Jesus, Divine Physician and Healer of the sick, O dearest comforter of the troubled, alleviate us with your gentle love. Dear God, we place our worries in your hands. We place our sick under your care and humbly ask that you restore your servant to health again. Above all, grant us the grace to acknowledge your will and know that whatever you do, you do for the love of us. AMEN

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please REMEMBER that we list the names of our beloved sick parishioners monthly. If you wish to continue including a person’s name, please call the office or place a note in the collection basket.

PRAYER

FOR THOSE IN PUBLIC OFFICE

Almighty ever-living God,in whose hand lies every human heart and the rights of peoples, look with favor, we pray, on those elected to govern with authority over us, that throughout the whole world the prosperity of peoples, the assurance of peace, and freedom of religion may through your gifts be made secure.

Graciously receive the prayers we pour out to you for our country, that, through the wisdom of its leaders and the integrity of its citizens, harmony and justice may be assured and lasting prosperity come with peace.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

HE HAS SOMETHING BETTER

When God answers your prayers, He is increasing your faith; when He delays, He is increasing your patience. When He doesn't give you what you pray for, He has something better in mind. Amen.

PRAYER FOR THE DECEASED

Please pray for our Parishioners who have laid to REST...

Let us pray for the repose of their souls.

Eternal rest, grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.

Prayer for the Dead

God our Father,
Your power brings us to birth,
Your providence guides our lives,
and by Your command we return to dust.

Lord, those who die still live in Your presence, their lives change but do not end. I pray in hope for my family,
relatives and friends, and for all the dead known to You alone.

In company with Christ, Who died and now lives, may they rejoice in Your kingdom, where all our tears are wiped away. Unite us together again in one family, to sing Your praise forever and ever.
Amen.

St. Teresa's Teaching

on the Grades of Prayer

When Pope Paul VI proclaimed St. Teresa of Avila the first woman Doctor of the Church on September 27, 1970, he selected one of her many titles as the basis for conferring that honor on her: Teresa of Avila, Teacher of Prayer. The same sentiment was expressed by Pope John Paul II in a letter to the Superior General of the Discalced Carmelite Friars to mark the fourth centenary of the death of Teresa:

Teresa considered that her vocation and her mission was prayer in the Church and with the Church, which is a praying community moved by the Holy Spirit to adore the Father in and with Jesus "in spirit and in truth" (Jn 4:23). . . . Saint Teresa considered the life of prayer to be the greatest manifestation of the theological life of the faithful who, believing in the love of God, free themselves from everything to attain the full presence of that love (L'Osservatore Romano, English edition, November 9, 1981).

In all of her major works—The Life, The Way of Perfection, The Interior Castle—St. Teresa explains the practice of prayer. And it is noteworthy that she did not begin to write until she was 47 years old, after her second conversion and when she was already well-versed in the practice of prayer. Her teaching flows from her own experience and not from books on prayer. She does, however, acknowledge her indebtedness to two authors: Francisco de Osuna, the author of The Third Spiritual Alphabet, and Bernardino de Laredo, the author of The Ascent of Mount Sion. The book by Osuna treated of the prayer of recollection, and St. Teresa states that she was "delighted with the book and resolved to follow that way of prayer with all my might" (cf. The Life, chap. 4).The treatise by Laredo described the prayer of union, to which St. Teresa had attained "after almost twenty years of experience in the practice of prayer" (cf. The Life, chap. 23).

St. Teresa's Teaching on the Grades of Prayer

The LORD blesses you and keeps you!

The LORD let his face shine upon you,

and be gracious to you!

The LORD looks upon you kindly and give you peace!

(Numbers 6:24-26)
